3rd Perovskite Technology, Equipment and Materials Forum 2024

Background

Perovskite cells are a promising next-generation photovoltaic technology with low temperature coefficient, high efficiency ceiling, and great potential for cost reduction. Perovskite-silicon tandem cells are expected to propel photovoltaic power generation to become the cheapest electric energy source ever. The "China Photovoltaic Industry Development Roadmap" shows that the laboratory efficiency of perovskite will reach 29% by 2030. The main challenges facing perovskite technology are further improvement of commercial-scale cell efficiency, large-scale manufacturing and long-term stability, optimization of tandem cell technology as well as improvement of relevant testing standards and testing techniques.

 

Universities, research institutions and PV companies around the world and in China are actively investing in the R&D and application of perovskite technology. In November 2023, the world's first commercialized perovskite ground PV project using perovskite modules from Microquanta was successfully connected to the grid. In February 2024, UtmoLight achieved a steady-state efficiency of 20.7% on 810cm² perovskite modules. In March, GCL achieved an efficiency of 19.04% on a 2m² full-size perovskite single-junction module. In May, Renshine achieved a full-area steady-state efficiency of 18.4% on a 1.2*0.6 square meter commercial-sized perovskite module.

 

At the same time, leading companies in perovskite and traditional PV giants are also actively investing in the R&D of perovskite/c-Si tandem cells or all-perovskite tandem cells. In October 2023, Tongwei announced a 31.65% R&D efficiency of perovskite tandem cells. In November, Longi's silicon-perovskite tandem cell efficiency reached 33.9%. In November, Jinko TOPCon perovskite tandem cell efficiency reached 32.33%. In February 2024, Nanjing University Tan‘s research group achieved a large-area all-perovskite tandem module efficiency of up to 24.5%. In April, GCL achieved a large-size perovskite tandem module with an efficiency of 26.36%.

 

2024 is the first year for large-scale production of perovskite cells. The construction of the GW-scale perovskite module production line in Wuxi, UtmoLight, began in April 2023. In December 2023, the construction of GCL GW-scale large-scale (2.4m×1.2m) perovskite production base in Kunshan was started. In January 2024, the 150MW perovskite module project in Changshu, Renshine, was put into production. The rapid development of the perovskite and tandem cell industries has brought huge market opportunities for technology, equipment and material suppliers.

 

3rd Perovskite Technology, Equipment and Materials Forum 2024 will be held on September 19-21 in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China.
