China Petroleum's first zinc bromine flow battery energy storage system realizes the application of off grid remote well oil production scenarios

2024-06-29

On June 29th, according to Jichai Power, China Petroleum's first zinc bromine liquid flow battery energy storage system completed on load commissioning at the Mahu 078 well site in Xinjiang Oilfield, marking the implementation of off grid remote well oil production scenarios for the energy storage system and taking a solid step towards achieving "zero carbon emissions" for China Petroleum.

It is understood that the water-based zinc bromide electrolyte used in zinc bromine flow batteries is a reusable natural flame retardant that can effectively reduce operating costs and promote efficient production in oil and gas mining.

Wang Shengchun, a researcher from the New Energy Technology Branch, stated that Mahu 078 is located in the northwest of the Zhungeer Basin, and the investment in power grid installation and the cost of relying on traditional diesel power generation for production are relatively high. In the process of exploring clean and green production in cooperation with Xinjiang Oilfield, the company adheres to the core corporate value of "everything for customer satisfaction", adapts to local conditions and combines with reality, and adopts a solution that integrates "photovoltaic+energy storage" power supply with the production electricity of pumping wells. The company fully compared the characteristics of various types of energy storage battery products on the market, combined with the special working conditions of the zero carbon/near zero carbon well site pilot test project in Xinjiang Oilfield, and finally chose the zinc bromine flow battery solution to meet the actual needs of 4 to 24 hours of energy storage time and low-temperature discharge at 25 degrees Celsius below zero in winter for remote off grid well sites.
